Garuda is also seen as a symbol of freedom, representing the power to overcome obstacles and evil forces; prayers are offered to Lord Garuda to seek his blessings for protection and well-being also celebrated remembering the difficulties a son undergoes for the well-being of his mother and also is celebrated to commemorate the victory of Lord Garuda over the Devas to obtain Amrutha.
